Happy Easter
Hello Bright Bod!
Easter is just around the corner and I often think about the roots of Easter celebrations. Eggs, signifying new life and spring time, which feels strange as we move into Autumn.
Instead of focussing on cheap chocolate and indulging, lets make some new Easter tradtions. Here is a scavenger hunt you can use from my family to yours. Try some real coloured eggs and other gifts too - an Easter cup or mug, egg cup, Easter books, a football (it is egg shaped too), cool weather clothes, even pjs!
Clue 1: To start you on your Easter Way, Up Up Up is where the first clue lay.
Clue 2: Brr... its cold in here. I might be hiding somewhere in the rear.
Clue 3: Rumble Tumble in a Jumble, Please find the next clue before the chores are due
Clue 4: Read on me a fable, if you are able, I do not need a cable, I am quite stable.
Clue 5: The prize is near, something that is clear. Daylight comes in. Find the bunny and win!

What's New
April Falls Month
April is April Falls month, raising awareness of falls prevention and in our case, the importance of both nutrition and physical activity to stay strong, independant and living life your way as you age. This is something I am passionate about as I have worked with many older adults over my career to help them stay independent, living in their home as long as possible. Having healthy habits to look after our body throughout our life sets us up to enjoy our golden years, and that incudes playing the odd innocent practical joke!

Recipe of the Month
Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs
Every year, part of our Greek Orthodox tradition, we boil eggs and crack them with each other at Easter Sunday lunch to celebrate Christ rising. The strongest egg wins! Here is my recipe for different coloured eggs using natural dyes.
Ingredients
- 24 eggs- white or brown. The egg colour contributes to the end colour result. Some eggs are stamped and sometimes this washes off, if not it can be hidden with the red coloured dye.
- 4 cups of water added to either:
- 4 cups red cabbage (blue or green),
- 4 cups red onion skins (lavender or light red),
- 4 cups grated beetroot (or tops and tails of beetroot kept in the freezer),
- 4 cups yellow onion skins (orange or rusty red (the traditional red colour),
- 8 Tablespoons tumeric
- White vinegar
- Extra Virgin olive oil
Method
-
Add the water and desired ingredients above to a pot to make your chosen dye. Sometimes I halve the recipe to make dfferent colours.
-
Boil with the lid on for 30 minutes.
-
Strain the dye into the pot you are going to cook the eggs in and allow to cool.
-
Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar per cup of liquid dye.
-
Wash the eggs to ensure the dye sticks evenly.
-
Add the eggs to the dye, ensuring they are covered. Turn on the heat to medium and then high to bring the dye and eggs to the boil slowly to avoid the egg shells cracking.
-
Boil the eggs for 10 minutes
-
Turn the heat off and allow to sit for at least half an hour.
-
Take the eggs out of the water and place onto a drying rack to dry.
-
When dry, use a soft cloth dipped in olive oil to very gently polish the eggs
